Project Description
The works comprised the renovation of the existing two storey Burgh Hall. The existing building consisted of several extensions constructed in different eras which were host to a large number of community classes and events in addition to housing the office headquarters of a charity. The works comprised the formation of a community library on the ground floor, complete with archive facilities and accommodation for the Social Work Department whilst the upper floor consists of two community halls and facilities. Externally, public realm works were carried out which highlight and reflect the Burgh Hall’s position as the centre of the local community.
Role/Scope
This £2.2m project reached practical completion in April 17. Doig+Smith were appointed to provide full cost consultancy and principal designer services. We worked collaboratively with the design team and contractor to ensure added value was brought to the project by communicating regularly with the various stakeholders. Analysis of key elements and their cost impact on the overall budget has been consistently under review and communicated to ensure that all team members and stakeholders were aware of the estimated outturn cost.
To allow continued operation of the building, a phased process for the asbestos surveys was designed to address the associated financial and programme risk presented by asbestos but also allow early access for opening up of the structure to progress the design.
