Why…

This National Trust for Scotland Visitor Attraction has been the subject of a major revamp, in one of the organisation’s most significant projects of the year.

Supporting the transformation of the House of Dun from the outset, construction consultancy Doig+Smith was appointed to provide its services in Quantity Surveying Services through tender and construction to  completion.

The works included the near-complete strip out and restoration of existing courtyard buildings to make the necessary repairs in preparation for the builders works and decoration.

Converting under-utilised space in the courtyard area, a brand new home has now been created for the Angus Folk Collection. Throughout the property and surrounding courtyard, multi sensory techniques are being used to celebrate the estate’s important national heritage. The attraction covers topics such as life ‘above’ and ‘below’ stairs, the food and drink of Angus, the Declaration of Arbroath, toys through the ages and the important role of horses in peacetime and war.

New cafés and shops have been created including multiple pop up shop spaces for use by local artisan producers. New Maps and signage were also added, pointing visitors towards the beautiful walks around the estate and the children’s play park.

These improvements along with the effective application of the interior design elements has completely transformed the visitor attraction which has been  welcoming around 300 people per day since it opened its doors to the public in July 2021.

“It has been a pleasure for our team to work alongside the National Trust for Scotland to deliver this ambitious project. The finished result is phenomenal and is a credit to all involved.”
