Academy

The Doig+Smith Training Academy is a hub of education and development, geared towards undergraduates, postgraduates and seasoned professionals. With a comprehensive curriculum curated by industry experts, participants engage in immersive learning experiences that seamlessly blend theory with practical applications.

We aim to empower individuals with the skills and knowledge to excel in their careers and to equip them with the tools to navigate the intricate landscapes of project evaluation, cost estimation, and efficient management.

CORE PURPOSE

The purpose of the D+S Academy is to build a highly skilled team of staff that are motivated, happy at their work, loyal and driven to provide the best possible service to clients.

The Academy also serves to showcase the commitment of D+S to training and professional development and to demonstrate how this commitment directly benefits our staff and clients.

Many D+S staff past and present have benefitted from undertaking their university studies while also gaining valuable experience working in industry. Part time university courses offer the flexibility and time to do both, with each simultaneously complimenting the other. D+S actively support this and have a number of staff currently benefitting from this combined approach to university learning.

6/12 month development reviews with line manager.

“Golden Hour” fortnightly CPD session. Mix of internal and external speakers discussing a range of topics relevant to the construction industry. Aimed at all levels, however may be targeted to particular groups if deemed appropriate.

D+S are committed to investment in people, therefore a budget has been provided specifically to develop D+S staff,

Access and visits to live projects such as Wavegarden in Edinburgh.

Full APC support, supervisor / councillor meetings, Q&A's, final submission reviews and bespoke support as and when required.

Offering the potential for personal development for staff at mid/senior levels looking to improve on their management & leadership skills within D+S.

e.g. Chartered Management Institute (CMI) certified leadership training

A full week, fully accredited post.

Our bespoke training budget is utilised in many ways to help students develop themselves outside of the day to day with no “right” way to progress.

D+S are passionate about supporting staff at all levels with their ongoing professional development. For those keen to continue their academic journey beyond masters degree level, a doctorate may be your chosen route.

The Academy team are continuously researching other specialist industry training that will not only help develop staff but also ensure we are offering the best possible service to our clients.

As part of Personal Development reviews our staff have one to one discussions with line managers/directors where they have the opportunity to propose any training and development opportunities they feel would benefit their career going forward.
