New Allander Leisure Centre – Planning Application Submitted

11th Mar 2020

A formal planning application was submitted last week for a brand-new leisure centre to be built in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire.

The application outlined plans for the new facility to include a 60m x 40m sports dome with multiple indoor football and tennis courts, an 8 court multi-functional games hall, 2 squash courts, a health and fitness suite and three studios to accommodate fitness classes.

The centre is also set to provide an array of options for swimmers including a hydrotherapy pool, a training pool with movable floor and a large 8-lane 25m pool complete with 160 seat spectator gallery.

Another highlight of the proposed new leisure centre is the proposed Adult Day Care Hub, designed to support adults with learning difficulties. This unique space will feature a Snoezelen sensory room, computer room, quiet rooms and a dedicated area for arts and crafts.

Speaking about the leisure centre’s design, the Architect Holmes Miller said “The rationale is to create a flexible, inclusive environment whereby each centre can interact and share facilities. Combining wet and dry leisure with a day care centre for adults with learning challenges, the building provides a Community campus with best in class facilities.”

Doig+Smith is delighted to have been appointed to provide its services in Project Management on this new development. We are excited to see the project progress in the coming year and look forward to working collaboratively with all involved parties.
