Day 1 in Lockdown: Adapting to a New Way of Working

25th Mar 2020

Lauren Meldrum - Senior QS at Doig+SmithWith the UK officially in Lockdown amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic, we thought it would be interesting to share how this new development is impacting on working life here at Doig+Smith.

Read on as our Senior Quantity Surveyor Lauren Meldrum documents her first day of working from home….

AM:

My morning kicked off with a Microsoft Team Meeting with the rest of the Quantity Surveying Team to discuss our new processes, projects, team deliverables and how we will support our clients.

I’m pleased to say this went extremely well, with everyone operating the system effectively. The only notable drawback was that we all had to make our own tea and coffee!

Lunch Al Fresco

I’ve switched my usual subway salad for a warm toastie and cuppa in the garden. I must admit, it’s nice to swap the bustle of the city for some fresh air, and naturally as any good QS would, I’ve already calculated the savings I’ll make from having these homemade lunches!

PM:

Maintaining the spirit of collaborative working, the Quantity Surveying and Project Management Teams at Doig+Smith worked together with the design team and contractor on Boclair Academy which is currently being procured through SCAPE. We have also elected to use Microsoft Teams as the virtual meeting platform for the project moving forward. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds over the coming months and if perhaps we will keep it going even after the crisis has passed.
