This past month has seen the opening of two brand new Early Years facilities in East Dunbartonshire.
Lairdsland Early Years Centre today welcomed its first pre-schoolers in Kirkintilloch, while Oakburn Early Years Centre in Milngavie opened its doors at the beginning of last week.
Both centres share identical facilities and layout, having been carefully designed to create a highly stimulating environment for children to play and learn.
Features of the centres include an internal courtyard space to facilitate both indoor and outdoor play, playrooms equipped with the latest digital technology, a large garden area and a mezzanine level with chute providing access to the level below.
The new builds were commissioned by East Dunbartonshire Council to support the Scottish Government’s pledge to provide 1140 hours of free childcare for pre-schoolers.
Back in 2019 Doig+Smith was appointed by project delivery partner, Hub West Scotland, to provide its services in Quantity Surveying and Principal Designer on each of the new Early Years Centres, and this support continued right up until the projects completed on site earlier this year.
William Bowie, Doig+Smith Director comments “It is wonderful to see Lairdsland and Oakburn Early Years Centres now open and in use by local pre-school children who will undoubtedly benefit from these exceptional facilities. Delivering these projects in the midst of a global pandemic has been problematic at times however, everyone involved has risen to the challenge and we are proud to have played our part in delivering such innovative learning environments”.
